As a thank you to all our hard-working NHS emergency responders, the Pelican team helped deliver refreshments to crews who were on duty at the Royal Surrey County and Frimley Park Hospitals in the Guildford area, on New Year’s Eve 2021.  The ambulance crews have a really demanding workload and they do not often get a chance for a break, so they were grateful for the opportunity to grab a hot or cold drink and a snack to keep them going between patients.

Marietta Campbell, Pelican Procurement’s Implementation Project Manager, led the initiative supported by the Pelican supply chain team who sourced suitable products from several suppliers. Alongside her day job, Marietta is the Team Leader of Surrey Hills Community First Responders, volunteering with SECAmb to support the ambulance service in the local community. https://www.secamb.nhs.uk/join-us/community-first-responders/

Along with her colleague Tessa, they ran a refreshments vehicle through the evening of New Year’s Eve. The feedback on the night and since has been great – it was good to hear the initiative really was appreciated by everyone.

Please do not underestimate how much of a difference this can make, this isn’t a little thing, the crews really appreciate what you are doing and that someone is thinking of them. Thank you for giving up your time and thank you so much for the donations of goodies

Phil, OTL

Thank you for last night, it’s really lifting seeing you at hospital. Thank you for your time.”

Adam, ECSW

It is clear that ambulance crews across the country are under an incredible amount of pressure at the moment – and this has been the case for local ambulance crews for some time. A huge increase in the volume of calls in the past months, compared to previous years, has left the service really stretched.

I would just like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Pelican for providing the supplies to make this happen. Ambulance crews have been working on the frontline throughout the pandemic and put their lives and health on the line every shift they do. They are an amazing bunch of people who really care about their patients and their families. My team always feel really privileged to be able to help and support them. Providing a hot or cold drink and a snack on New Year’s Eve goes a little way to show how grateful we are for what they do”, said Marietta Campbell, Team Leader Surrey Hills CFRs.
