70 years ago, on the 5th July 1948, the NHS was launched at Park Hospital in Manchester, known today as Trafford General Hospital, by Aneurin Bevan the then the Health Secretary.
For the first time doctors, nurses, pharmacists, opticians and dentists were brought together under one umbrella to provide a health services for free at the point of use.
On and around the 5th July 2018, thousands of NHS-themed public tea parties are going to take place as the nation is ready to celebrate the NHS’s 70th birthday.
The NHS70 celebration events will also include a formal celebration which will be held at Westminster Abbey (12noon-1pm) and York Minister (7pm-8.30pm).
The NHS Greenwich and Lewisham choir will be singing their latest single, With a Little Help from My Friends; and Britain’s Got Talent finalists, the B Positive Choir, will also be performing.
The NHS logo will also be projected on to famous landmarks including the Houses of Parliament and the London Eye.
To mark this big occasion, many NHS Trusts are celebrating this event with their patients, visitors and staff. For example, one of our clients, Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, is serving delicious Victoria Sponge Cupcakes each with NHS70 logo on them, to all its patients and they have also created special menus to mark this occasion.
We would love to hear how other NHS Trusts are celebrating this big NHS birthday.
